mist + veneer tutorial

Hi everyone! I’m here today to share a fun new way to use your wood veneer…as little masks when you’re misting!

I wanted to use the cute little wood veneer people for my card, so I started by using some temporary adhesive and lining up a couple of the large wood veneer people across the patterned paper.

Then I misted with Boss Lady Mister Huey and after it dried, I took off the wood veneer. I actually misted a bit too close to the paper so it bled a little. To remedy that, I used my favorite Uniball Signo white pen to outline the people and they looked as good as new.

I always have some scraps lying around my work area, so I finished off this simple card with some stamping, Take Note scraps, and twine. Super easy right? :)

Hi SC family, Vee here to share with you some fun ways to use our new wood veneers! I am a self proclaimed veneer junkie, love all things veneer, seriously. It is such a fun versatile embellishment that looks great inked, misted, stamped, painted or distressed.

I added dimension to the star wood veneers on this layout by adding rubons and ink. I love the way the ink makes the wood veneer stand out against the page. These veneers are easy to cut as well, the strips are veneer is actually the large wood veneer frame! I love stretching products and adding lines to projects. It was super easy to cut using my craft scissors and cutting the frame at each corner!

Emily's Challenge

Happy Monday everyone! It's Emily, and it's my turn to pose a challenge to you this week. Today's challenge is easy because with the holidays in full swing, we need easy where we can get it. I love the fact the Studio Calico loves stars! I'd like you to use a handful of stars on your layouts or cards this week.
Supplies: Patterned paper - Documentary Souvenir, Documentary Window Seat, Crate Paper; Wood Veneer - Stars, Stickers - Anthology alphabet; Stamp - Star Border; Ink - Faded Jeans; Mist - Mister Huey's Classic Calico, Mister Huey's Schoolhouse; pen - Martha Stewart

They can be of any variety, I used the wood veneer ones (some of them I punched with the Crop-A-Dile to turn them into buttons) available here in the store as well as the star stamp border, but you are not limited to those. Punching, stamping, sticking, drawing, stitching and handcutting all count. Just add stars! Please make sure your creation is a new one, created for this challenge, posted in the SC member gallery, and linked in this thread. Insider Tips: Nicole Samuels

According to Mae West, "Too much of a good thing is....wonderful."  And in the case of certain scrapping supplies, such as SC's new wood veneer shapes, I'd have to agree with her!  I often take cool embellishments and use a whole bunch of them on one page.  It can make a strong visual statement on your layout.  So, for this page I tore open a pack of the wood veneer frames and went to town!  Did you know the packs come with two sheets?!  That wiped away any momentary guilt I felt about using more than one on a single layout.  Anyways, first I needed to come up with my overall design.  I decided to use 4 frames nested inside each other.

Then I pulled out the photos I had printed to use and realized they weren't going to work at the printed size.  Too big for the frames I selected.

So, back to photoshop to resize and reprint.  I just measured the inside opening of the frames I wanted to fill and plugged that into the width value on image size.  I should have done this before my first printing! 
 
Once I had the photos figured out and cut down to fit the right frames, I pulled out a pack of the Wood Veneer Stars and the Stars Ledger Rub-ons.  I love that the size of the star rub-ons coordinates so well with the sizes of the veneer.  Brilliant!  And they go on to the veneer like butter!

The last little tidbit I'll share is about Mister Huey's.  I won't lie... I am a little afraid of misting.  I've admitted that before.  I mean, what if I mess it up!  But one misting technique I've come to LOVE is using mist to color something like chipboard, alphas, or in this case, veneer.  I used some of the Elementary colors of Mister Huey's to create custom letters for my title.  It worked fabulously and gives the title the pop I wanted.  Here's my completed page...

Okay, THIS is my final insider tip.  The fabRIPS are great for doing print journaling on.  Just print out what you want on a normal piece of paper.  Adhere the fabRIP over top of the printed section.  Re-run it through your printed and viola... perfect!  And since it's not overly sticky adhesive, you can pull it right off the plain paper and stick in right on your page.
