I was really excited to make a Project Life spread using the new Studio Calico lines: Sundrifter, Here and There, and Snippets. They are colorful and whimsical and fit my style of scrapping perfectly. Plus they have so many little embellishments that would work well for Project Life. The spread came together really easily due to all the matching products, including the printables for these three lines.

You can see this spread is filled with COLOR. One of my favorite products in these new lines are the little 3x3” frames. I would add them over a portion of my picture I wanted to stand out.

I love the paper in the Here and There collection called Chattanooga with all the little designs on it. I cut several out to use on my spread to further the theme I was after.

When I saw these new lines at CHA, I was instantly in love with the playful little circles with different words on them. They come in stickers and in wood veneer. I printed the 4x6 PL card with the same designs on them and then added some of the stickers over my photo for an easy insert.

I think this Project Life spread is one of my favorite ever because I love the colors in these lines so much and they totally fit my style of scrapping! I had such a fun time using them to create this spread and want to use them all throughout my Project Life album!

weekly challenge

Your challenge this week is to create a project (layout, card, project life card, etc.) that is inspired by a song.

We all have our moments and songs play a big part of them. There are always a few songs that you will never forget because they bring back wonderful memories or songs that will cheer you up no matter in which mood you are. It can be as simple as a song that motivates you to workout or one that reminds you of a family member/friend. It can also be the song that was played on your graduation day, the special song that played on a first date or when you walked down the aisle.

My layout is inspired by the song "High" by The Lighthouse Family. It's an old song but reminds me of the friendship that I've made with a few people. I love the lyrics and the tunes brought me back to those great moments we've spent together.

My card for this challenge was inspired by the pop song "Pack Up" by Eliza Doolittle. Whenever a friend and I get a little cranky over something that, in all reality, deserves no attention, just humming that song helps to put things in perspective and focus on the bright side of life.

from layout to card

I chose this gorgeous layout by the incredible Anna-Maria Wolniak as the inspiration for my card. Isn't it chock-full of inspiring elements and details. 

 Then, I considered how to turn it into a card... First, I sketched out my card design, choosing to use Anna-Maria's background in a similar way on my card. I chose a similar patterned paper from the Sundrifter 6 x 6 pad, and added lots of Calico White and Calico Shine Mister Huey's. Then I focused on layering up some embellishments. I wanted to stick to the same color scheme, so chose aqua and white, with some woodgrain elements to echo the kraft and bamboo paper in the layout. I love the little arrow she added above her photo, and was inspired to add one to my card too.  Finally, I added some Thickers.

Hi dear SC lovers! Today, Allison and I want to challenge you to use your favorite Studio Calico masks to create a fun and unique background, for both your layouts AND Project Life!

For my layout, I decided to work on a 8.5x11" kraft background and layered my SC mask I got in the Neverland Main kit. I simply misted some First Kiss Mr Huey on top of my mask and let it dry. Then, I outlined some designs with a pencil, and hand-colored them with more First Kiss Mr Huey and a brush, that way I could get more colorful designs than by just misting.Add some embellishments and machine stitching here and there and you're good!

I love playing with Mister Huey's on Project Life cards to add a bit of dimension and texture to an otherwise plain card!

I used the Dear Lizzy die cut as a mask on 4x6 white cardstock. By spraying closer to the card you'll get more "bleeding" or run through for a messier unintentional look.

On this page I used the mini mask that came in the Neverland Card Kit (how cute is that mask and Mini Huey?!) directly onto the back of a PL card. This was sprayed at more of a distance for a lighter mist.

Masks are a fun way to add a big or small impact to your background! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Hello SC friends!! Kelly and Amber here with a challenge for you today. Of course, we all love being inspired by Pinterest and it's so much fun to see where the same inspiration piece can take two different designers. Amber and I chose these images to be inspired by...

As you can see, there are a ton of ways to be inspired by these images. The bright colors paired with neutrals like kraft or black. The shapes....triangles & diamonds configured any which way. Here's my inspired layout...I loved the diamonds that were shaped into pinwheels/bursts. I used my Silhouette to cut them out in different papers from the Here & There collection and then simply arranged them randomly on my layout.

Amber made this incredible card inspired by the first two photos in the inspiration images. The muted feathers in the second photo totally reminded her of the Sundrifter patterned paper, so she trimmed a feather and added it as an accent! Woodgrain Thickers finished off the sentiment and stayed true to the organic feeling that she got from these beautiful art pieces!

studio calico digital templates

Hello, it's Catherine here. I'm thrilled to be designing the new Digital Layout Templates in the Digital Shop. We've kicked things off this month with designs to coordinate with the Neverland kits. Use them for your Project Life albums, Handbooks or to kick start a layout.

I like to think of templates as cheatsheets. Even if you're a seasoned Photoshop user, they save time on design guesswork and pesky things like alignment. If you're new to digital scrapbooking, this makes executing a layout easy while you're learning the ropes.

If you're completely new to the whole thing, here's the scoop! The templates are layered PSD files, which means they are only editable in Photoshop Elements or Photoshop. (Tip: You can download a free 30-day trial of Photoshop Elements from Adobe here.) The templates are all set up for you to easily pop your photos into the boxes provided. I have a video tutorial that explains the simple process. Watch it on my blog Design Editor here.

I'm a big fan of mixing digital templates with papercrafting products, so I thought I'd share an example. (You can also check out an example by Celine Navarro her March gallery. Very cool!)

For this layout, I used the 8.5x11 template from the variety pack of Neverland designs. 

I got started in Photoshop, adding my photos to the template and changing the Hello text box from green to black. Our templates allow you to change colors, move around the boxes, and add your own type. 

After I printed out the template, I started building onto it with patterned paper, design elements, and some cross stitching sprinkled around. I gave the edges of my patterned paper a slight bend to give the page more dimension.

product spotlight - speech bubble mask

This month, we asked three of our designers to show you how they'd use the Snippets speech bubble mask - here's what they made :

Tina Aszmus - I love that we chose to use the new Snippets large speech bubble mask for our product spotlight. I love the large scale of the mask and wanted to do something different with it. I recently found some old watercolor crayons and did a bit of experimenting. I loved the colorful results. They incredibly easy to use. I held the mask down on a sheet of watercolor paper, traced the inside of the bubbles with the crayon. After blending a few colors within each bubble, I swiped it with watercolor brush until I achieved the look as I was after. 

I let the paper dry overnight, then added in my photo, journaling + a few other elements. I liked that I worked outside my comfort zone and tried something new. I hope this inspires you to try something new!

Dawn McVey - I have to say that this was a really fun assignment, as I haven't really used many masks in the past.  It was fun to put this one to use, to create a background for my card and all it took was some white card stock, the mask and some Mister Huey's mists!  I chose colors that I thought would work well with the patterned paper butterfly I created, and sprayed them in order of color from lightest at the bottom to darkest up top.  

I also LOVE that I was able to stamp my sentiment directly on the wood veneer speech bubble, as well as punch a hole through it so I could attach the brad!

Catherine Davis - The Snippets Speech Bubble mask has so many possibilities! As I worked on my Project Life spread, a photo of my daughters' glittery shoes gave me an idea on how to use my mask. Glitter! 

For the "amazing" card, I trimmed a Snippets Handbook Album Insert to 4x6 and placed the mask over it. Using a paint brush, I added regular craft glue in the speech bubble. After gently pulling the mask up, I sprinkled silver glitter and let it dry. Love it! 

For the glittery outline on the 3x4 card, I ran my Martha Stewart Glue Pen along the inside of one of the speech bubbles on the mask, pulled it up and added glitter. So easy! I also want to try using the mask by outlining the speech bubbles in ink to create a pattern, plus painting/misting it.
