My Favorite Kit

When I was asked to do this blog post about my favorite SC kit I have to say.... I was not excited.  I joined SC soon after they debuted their very first kit and I just went back to count how many amazing SC kits I've received since then... FIFTY!  Yes, 50!  Yikes!  So picking my one favorite kit out of 50 is like picking my favorite child.  It all varies on the day, mood, circumstances, etc.  ;) 

I went back through my pages and tried to pick out what my favorite kit is TODAY...because really... I love them all for different reasons!  I chose Baker's Dozen today. 

The browns in the kit mixed with the brighter orange, yellow, and green...it's such a lovely color palette.  Plus the Petit Fours add-on with the vintage doilies?  Swoon! And my favorite layout from my gallery that month was this one. 

I decided to use the doily as an umbrella and then just used pops of yellow to play off the photos.  I still love that background paper and wish I had more. It was the perfect pattern while still being neutral. 
 
So, which is YOUR favorite kit today? You'll likely make me change my mind!  :)

Laura's Favorite Kit

My favorite kit also happens to be one of my first as a member of the Studio Calico Design Team – Granny’s Cupboard.

 

And it’s my favorite because of one little piece – that beautiful piece of chipboard from Buzz and Bloom!

Well, OK, I also love how neutral this kit is with the pops of color in the patterned paper and embellishments!

But, it’s because of that piece of chipboard that I created my all-time favorite layout.


I used the chipboard to highlight a lot of the different elements of the kit – from the patterned paper to the buttons, the doily stamp, and the alphabet stickers. It was also the perfect size for my index prints.

I also loved how the rest of the Design Team used this kit, especially this layout from April.

If I could have one kit repeat, this one would definitely be it!

April's Favorite Kit

There are lots of reasons the Metropolitan kit is one of my favorites.  The color combo is what first drew me in.  It works so well with everyday photos or winter photos because of the cool color palette.

Another reason I love this kit is the exclusive patterned papers, which are still available in the More Patterned Paper kit.  Both Stephen (SC designer) and Sassafras knocked it out of the park.  I love all the little tone-on-tone patterns, but the Sassafras stripe and Studio Calico numbers have my heart.

I thought this kit with the cool tones would work great with a black & white photo.  I rarely scrap with black & white photos, but I love the simplicity of them and wish I used them more often.
It’s fun to look back at this kit since it was pre-baby and remember what my mornings were like when I got to sleep in!  I love that this kit provided the groundwork for me to document that memory.

Stephanie's Favorite Kit

My favorite kit was Baker's Dozen.

It was a close call between Granny's Cupboard and Baker's Dozen... but Baker's won out.  How could I not love it? It had doilies, candy colors, feminine touches, pearls, scallops, and lace. I think April pretty much made me my perfect kit in this one.

The colors still make me so very happy when I look at them. And the BasicGrey Nook and Pantry line was one of my favorite lines of 2010.

I went nuts with this kit. And several of the layouts that I truly loved are ones I can't share because they are out for publication.

But I adore this layout of Harper. It's super simple, but really showcases the photos and how I feel about her.

Another page I loved is this layout of Sadie. Classic Sadie. Heee! I had so much fun layering and playing with textures, patterns, and colors.

Oh Baker's Dozen...how I miss thee. You were the quintessential kit. Sigh.

Susan's Favorite Kit

Hi Everyone!  I'm here today to share my favorite Studio Calico kit with you...  Since I've been designing with the SC kits for the past year, I've pretty much ADORED every single kit, but my all-time fave has to have been "Joyland".  The bright colors and fun products were totally my style, and it ended up being one of my most productive months - with six different layouts created with it for my designer gallery.

Two of my favorite layouts from 2010 came from this kit - "Your First Year" & "A Surprise".  Your first year used the fabulous photo-strip frames that were included in the kit, to showcase photos from my son Evan's first year.  So now i have this "year at a glance" style page to include in his first year book - awesome!

"A Surprise" used up lots of little bits and scraps from the Joyland kit - along with ultrasound photos from my pregnancy, to tell the tongue-in-cheek story of how I pretty much hated people asking me if I "knew what I was having".

Even though this was my favorite kit to date, I'm still so very excited to see what's around the corner in the next kit being offered - seeing the kit contents is always one of my favorite days of the month.  Studio Calico continues to out-do itself in the combination of papers and products that they put together - and I love that!

Tina's Favorite Kit

My favorite kit was Happy Ending. It was the perfect mix of holiday fun but not to the point where I couldn't create a non-holiday layout.

I remember being really excited about this particular months main kit along with it's add ons.
This layout is my favorite layout to date.
The photo of grandparents at a holiday party looking so young and vibrant is something I treasure. The kit worked perfectly with the photo because of the vintage yet modern mix of papers and embellishments.
I tend to struggle with die cut paper and wanted to do something different. I cut out the inside and tilted it so it wasn't centered, added some wonky sewing and everything else came together nicely. I love the winter theme since our wedding had taken place in a log cabin during a blizzard storm.

Waleska's Favorite Kit

We've got a new feature to share with you here on the blog called My Favorite Kit.  Each month a Design Team member is going to share a little peek into what kits hold a special place in their hearts.

My favorite kit is Yearbook from October 2009:

I love every single Studio Calico kit, of course, but Yearbook has a special place in my heart. The deep rich colors, woodgrain, kraft and touch of gold makes this kit top-notch. It has the perfect colors and elements for Fall, yet it can easily be used for any and every other occasion.

When my kit first arrived I made a pretty scrappy 'bouquet' with all the goodies in it and was instantly inspired to scrap!

I finished 6 layouts with this kit and i loved every single of of them. Here's one of my favorites:

I love how Studio Calico kits are so timeless... this kit is over a year old but i don't feel the products are dated at all. Actually, looking at these pictures make me want to pull out this kit and play again!
