Laura also created a fun layout using State Fair. She says: "there isn't one thing I don't love about the State Fair collection...The colors, the versatility, and did I mention the butterflies?? Oh, and they go so well with kraft cardstock.
I love this photo of my little peanut, and I wanted to keep the vertical feel with turning the title vertically."
Supplies: Cardstock - Kraft; Rub-ons: State Fair Alphabet, Butterflies; Label sticker - State Fair; Other - Blue twine
I can't wait to see the projects you come up with when this line hits stores. Have a great day!

Challenge: Scrap your word
With the New Year comes Resolutions, declarations of change, promises made, and always, a fresh start. Many people encapsulate all of that using the One Little Word challenge. I haven't really participated in this challenge in years past, but have several plans of action for 2011, which led me to my word for 2011: Focus.
Who do I want to be?
Where do I want to go?
What do I want to accomplish?
I have a long list of to do's but I'm a bit of a scatterbrain. I'm hoping by focusing on the word.... focus, I'll be able to accomplish some goals I have set for myself that I've been afraid to chase in the past.
With that said, the challenge for this week is in two parts:
1. Take a photo of yourself. I do not do very many about-me layouts, and often have to hand the camera to someone at the last minute to ensure it gets documented that I was in my life. At the beginning of this new decade, take a self-portrait.
2. Put that photo on a layout, with your word for 2011. Take this time to journal about what this word means to you, and what you hope to do with it in the following year. Perhaps even write a letter to yourself, seal it, and don't read it until January 2012. Take this week's challenge as an opportunity to focus on how you, in the words of Oprah, can "live your best life".
Supplies: Who's
Who kit, Dear Abby add-on, Chipboard windows from On the
Easel, AC mixtape, Wood veneer - Classic Calico
The deadline for this challenge will be Monday, January 10th so leave a comment on this post by then for your chance to win a $5 SC gift code. I hope this is a cathartic experience for you, and can't wait to see what you come up with!

This week's sketch is based off of Lisa's layout Tracking Santa...
I am always inspired by the texture in Lisa's work. When I first saw this layout, I knew immediately what I could do with trees at the bottom. But when I saw the sketch, I was inspired by the use of multiple basic shapes.
For my layout, I decided to go with repetition in the form of scallops and circles. Lisa used scallops a couple of times in her layout.
Supplies: Metropolitan Kit; Canvas - Claudine Hellmuth Sticky backed canvas; Punches - Fiskars circle, EK Success scallop
For texture, I used adhesive backed canvas, and machine stitching (of course). Include your link to this thread by Saturday for a chance to win one of two $5 Studio Calico gift cards. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

In my November gallery, I created a layout called "Fall" using a reverse applique technique for my maple leaves. I'm going to create a card using this technique to show how easy it is to create fun texture to your projects.
Begin by planning your design and trimming out your papers. I am creating a 4.25 x 5.5 inch card and trimmed my patterned papers. This reverse applique is going to use a circular shape so I was able to utilize punches, but as in my "Fall" layout, you could always trim shapes with a rotary blade.
After you have punched out the shape you want to use, take the brown paper bags your Studio Calico kits come in, and punch or trim out a shape that is larger than the punched shape you already created.
After trimming the circles from the packaging, scrunch the circles. Finish by flattening them out, and then sandwiching them between the patterned paper and the cardstock base. Even after flattening them, they still have a fun scrunched texture.
Finish by adhering and then stitching down your design.
I added the new veneer alpha shapes after misting them with Calico mist.
Have fun creating texture in your designs. I can't wait to see this technique on your layouts!

Check out your Sunday Sketch using Emily's Run layout from the Napa Valley gallery:
Inspired by the falling leaves, I decided to make contemporary Christmas cards based on Emily's sketch, and used products from my stash.
Supplies: Card base and envelopes - Paper Mill Store; Patterned paper - Anthology Bouquet, Anthology Periodical; Circle punches - Marvy Uchida Circle, Real Estate Sign EK Success
This week feel free to spin the sketch into your own card or do a layout too! Include your link to this thread by Saturday for a chance to win one of two $5 Studio Calico gift cards. Have fun!

Storage Idea #447 – Acrylic stamps
As I’ve been with Studio Calico since the beginning, I have accumulated quite a stash of stamps. I try to keep these separate from other stamps that I purchase so they are within easy reach and I know where to look when I need an image.
I have an Expedit Storage system in my scrapbook room, and one of my favorite things in it is this row of locker baskets. #447 was chosen to house my stamp collection. It measures roughly 9 inches wide at the top, which is a perfect width for my Making Memories folders which measure 7” x 8.5”. I got my locker baskets on Ebay. I never find more than one at a time when I shop locally. If you look there, I would suggest checking out lots.
Anyway, back to stamps. Alphas come in a big sheet, so I put them straight in a folder and don’t do anything special with them.
For smaller stamps, I peel them off the image sheet and use glue dots to adhere it to the front of my stamp folder. Then I can simply put the stamps in the pocket and not worry about where to look if I’m missing a wee bird or butterfly stamp. Once stamps start getting some use they tend to relocate themselves, and this pocket is a great way to keep track.
(Looks like my girl and boy need to head down the lane on a card somewhere, wink wink).
I keep my alphas in front and the smaller images behind. I like to arrange my smaller stamps by type, but I know some people like to store their stamps by release date.
If you are looking for stamp storage solutions I hope this gave you an idea or two. Have a great day!
