This week we are offering you TWO sketches...one for cards and one for layouts!! The card sketch is from Maile Belle's Front Row gallery:
And the layout sketch is from Stephanie Baxter's Front Row Gallery:
We invited member Carson (carson) to choose one of these to use as a starting point this week, but she couldn't stop at just one...so she used BOTH sketches!! We love both of the cards she made!!
Supplies: Central High Card Kit, Silhouette Cameo, Black Washi
tape, Simon Says exclusive stamp sets, SC Wood Veneer, Sewing Machine
I love the simplicity and the graphic nature of
Maile's card, but it's almost impossible for me to make a card with that
much white space. I decided to go with a Valentine's theme which
allowed me to be a more frilly with my design. I love the way the
sketch allows for the triangle to overlap at the end, so I made sure to
use that feature with the heart strips I cut with my Silhouette. I also
love the wooden embellishment, so I dug into my stash and found this
sweet typewriter which I've been dying to use and haven't yet. Working
from the sketch was fun. I enjoyed trying to emulate an artist I
admire, but also making sure the card is in my own style, not always an
easy task.
Here is the card Carson made using the layout sketch :)
Supplies: Central High Card Kit, Dear Lizzy Fifth and Frolic chipboard
and stickers, Basic Grey brads, yellow airmail washi tape, Silhouette
Cameo, computer generated sentiments.
Making a card from a scrapbook layout, especially such a detailed one, has always been a challenge for me. I'm not a scrapbooker and have always had a great admiration for all the time and effort it takes to scrapbook so beautifully. I did want to push myself with this sketch and I'm glad I did. I love the way the card turned out, and although it took a lot longer than a card normally would, I feel as though I really stretched my creative boundaries. As you can see I pared the sketch way down to fit the much smaller card format. I computer generated the Live, Laugh and Love sentiments and transferred them to the paper with using a printed transparency. I even pulled out the tool box for this one, using the wire cutters to clip the tabs off the brads, turning them into buttons. Oh, and nothing makes me happier than that bright yellow washi tape.

We appreciate Carson taking on both of these challenges, as well as sharing her tips on how to adapt them to fit your needs. Thanks for joining us this week, Carson!
