Hi all! Nicole S. here with a peek inside my scrap area. I recently did a big overhaul of my area, including refinishing an old bedroom dresser to create a large, counter height desk. You can read all about that transformation on my blog here...this post today will focus on how I organize my space. I share my scrap area with the rest of the family since it's in the playroom on the first floor of our house, off the kitchen. I love that I can be working on a project while the kids are playing in the same room or my husband is watching TV on the couch. My desk is along the long wall of the room between two windows.
Since creating my new desk I now stand to scrap and I LOVE it. Why I waited so long to try standing and scrapping I'll never know. :) It makes the whole process much more efficient. I do have a stool at the computer end of the desk though for surfing and working. It's nice having the computer at one end so I can scrap while the kids are playing online, etc. Before I show you how I organized everything I'll say that I have been working to really purge my stash down over the past couple of years. Almost everything fits in the desk itself, and that's how I want it to stay. I found that having a ton of supplies didn't make me scrap any more. It actually sort of hindered my creative process (since I had to look through it all!), so I decided to only purchase what I really love and if I'm not using it to give it away. I really only buy SC kits anymore which really helps cut down on the clutter. I also have a little corner of the playroom closet that I use to store extra things like SC crop bags full of older SC lines, older BasicGrey papers, my paper scraps, mags I've been published in, Disney themed embellies I've collected to use eventually, etc. So there's a little more than what I'm showing...but only a little! Really! :) I tried to type everything on the photos themselves so you can read as you look.
And that's my little creative space. It's still a work in progress (can't wait to get my shelves up above the desk), but I really love it so far. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them as best I can!
Very nice! I love your room so much & it's so organized! TFS!

Wonderful space! Thanks for sharing.

I really love the simplicity - what a great idea. I had to put some of my crafty things in storage to accommodate a long-term guest in our second bedroom, and found that I don't even miss them - a sure sign that "out of sight, out of mind". I think for me that I'm really inspired to create more with quality, rather than quantity, products. I've been thinking about limiting my monthly craft purchases to SC!

Love your space! My big problem is the finished albums. Where do you store them?

Wow! Your desk is so fab! My scraproom/ computer room is kind of organized, but I see where you're coming from with having way too much stuff.

Your space is very well thought out. Thank you for sharing and inspirong. I can relate to the years of purging...that encourages me.

Your craft space looks like it is super efficient! I also love the idea of standing while creating, but my table is too low. Purging also makes sense. I think my scrapbook room is in for an over-haul!

Ginny, my albums are inside the armoire. They fit perfectly right now and some are empty/half full, so there's a little room to grow. Not sure what I'll do once I need more albums!

Yous printer is nice and small, is it an OKI? I'm looking to buy one... Any recommendations? Thanks Nicole.

Linda, my printer is actually pretty big. It's an HP wide format B8550. I like it ok...but I still think lab prints look better. The convenience and size options are great though!

Where did you find the carousel on the top of your dresser? I have been looking for something like that but no luck so far! Thanks for the peek into your work space!

Cindy, the solid carousel piece is from Making Memories. They used to carry it at Michaels, but I'm not sure if they still do or not. The wire two tiered piece is from Pottery Barn Teen. The one pic shows the MM one on the desk, but I've since moved that to the top of the armoire and now have the wire two tiered basket on the desk. Hope that helps!! :)

Nicole, that does help and thanks so much!

I love your space! Where did you find this desk? I love the idea of having standing space and leg room to sit and do things on the ends.

Consider whether or not you wish to limit your business to what you're most skilled at or prefer to open it up to all types of repair.
