Monthly Kit Spotlight

Hi everyone! It's Waleska and today we've got two layouts to share with you to help give you ideas for using up your past kits.

One of my favorite things about Studio Calico kits (besides the stamps, of course!) is the exclusive papers. I always always love them. The colors, the designs and how versatile they are. Take for example 'Eternal Summer'... one side looks very Valentine-ish to me (perfect for my layout) yet if you don't really do themey turn it around and you get a classic graph design which can be used as a neutral background or for journaling. For this layout my goal was to use both exclusive patterns in one layout (and I used 3 out of 4 patterns!)... this is what I came up with.
Supplies: Candy Shoppe kit; Cardstock - More White; Tiny Attacher; Wood Veneer - Hearts; Mister Huey's Mist - Piglet

Tina pulled out her leftovers from the Back 40 kit (which is still available in the shop.) She says: "I really loved the blues & greens of the Sassafrass line, Indie Girl and the teal Cosmo Cricket alphas. It paired well with the blue Studio Calico camera rub ons. I also used the white Mister Huey with a few punched out stars placed randomly on the charcoal gray cardstock. I finished it off with some journaling about my boy. The layout took me about an hour to complete which is about all the time I have to scrap these days. Working with the Studio Calico kits makes it easy to create quick and creative layouts. kelly's mist tutorial

Hello, SC friends! Kelly here to share a quick little tutorial on using Mister Huey with your SC stamps. I touched on this a bit before, but wanted to expand on the idea and show you exactly how to achieve the same effect.

Here's the layout that was shown on the blog before...

And here's the card I made for this tutorial...

Supplies: kit- Candy Shoppe; Noah Alphabet Stamps; Mister Huey's Color Mist- Piglet; ink- JBS Cough Syrup

First you'll need some mist, a stamping block, cardstock and some ink. Get out your trusty misting box (mine is looking mighty messy!) and place a small strip of cardstock into the box. Arrange your letters (I used the Noah Alpha set for this card...such a classic font and perfect for just about everything) onto the cardstock face up, so that the flat part of the stamp is against the cardstock and the words "read" correctly and not backwards. Basically you're placing them the opposite way than you would if you were actually stamping them.

Next, get some mist and spray away...several short sprays from about a foot away seems to work best.

Once you've sprayed, carefully pick up the stamps and clean them up with some baby wipes. Let them dry off and get your stamping block and ink ready to go. You can see that we've left the negative of the word here and now we can just stamp right into the spots for each letter. 

It is really such a simple technique, but the possibilities are endless. You can do this with just about any stamp. Hope you've enjoyed it and I hope you'll try this technique out on your next card or layout!

Lisa's Challenge

Happy Monday, Studio Calico friends! It's Lisa here today, and I'm bringing you our weekly challenge. This week, I'm challenging you to scrap a photo from the same month, but a different year. Look back through your photo files and see what you were doing in February in past years. It would be fun to compare and contrast your photo to the present, or you can just jot down a few thoughts about it like I did with mine.

I chose to use a photo from 5 years ago - I can't believe how little my boys look. I was scrapping back then, but never did anything with these photos. It probably didn't occur to me to record it since these car rides happened all the time back then! It really adds a new perspective when you're years separated from the photos - I can't wait to see what you find to scrap!
Supplies: cardstock - Vanilla Cardstock; patterned paper - Elementary Atmosphere, Elementary Penmanship, Countryside Wildflower, State Fair Midway; stickers - Yellow Label Stickers, State Fair label stickers, Countryside Label Stickers; chipboard - State Fair chipboard alphabet; Tag - Countryside Die Cut tags; veneer - Veneer Frames; other : foam adhesive, Tiny Attacher

For my page, I mixed Studio Calico's new lines, Countryside and State Fair (you'll be seeing them pop up in stores in mid February!), along with their last release, Elementary. The tones in these lines coordinate beautifully! I started by framing my focal photo with the veneer frames, and then added my second photo and title along side it. I'm loving the die cut tags in the new lines and couldn't resist adding one below my photo. I finished the page with a triangle of accents to help draw the eye through the layout.

Sunday Sketch

Hello to all my favorite people! It's Kimberly with a new layout for this Sunday's sketch Challenge.


I was so excited to do this sketch design by Nicole Samuels in the Candy Shoppe gallery. I loved this right away with how she was inspired by the cover of a book. Nicole's art always amazes me, with her attention to detail and crisp lines.
 
My favorite thing about sketches is how much you can vary them. There are no limits to how you interpret a sketch and how it inspires you.

    * With my design, I chose to stick to the basic design because I love it.
    * Rather than using ribbon as my border, I used patterned paper and tied a bow with thread.
    * Like Nicole, I used a die cutting machine to cut my title out of coordinating patterned paper.
    * To add a little interest to the background, I sprayed some Mister Huey "Piglet" onto a wet wipe and fauxed it onto the background paper.

Here is how mine came out:

As you can see, my layout is very similar in design to Nicole's, with a slight variation. I loved how this turned out.  Now I can't wait to see how you all interpret this design.
