Featuring Beth Deckard (Beth Ann)!!!
When I learned that I would be tackling the Member Spotlight post, I had just favorited this layout by Beth Ann...
Something about it just caught me...not sure whether it was the repetition of that beautiful photo, the stamped + punched butterflies or the sweet journaling. Whatever the reason, I love it to pieces.
This one too...
I may have been first to comment, but obviously it drew lots of attention, judging by all of the feedback!! I loved those K&Co. frames...so that initially was what drew me in. But the chopped up doily rub-ons and the title stretched across the middle of the collage are something I definitely want to keep for future reference.
And everyone knows I love to drag out an old photo...look at these here!
I HAD that hairdo. I LOVE those frames. The stamped subtitle makes me smile. This one is a winner in my book for sure!
Here are a few questions I threw Beth Ann's way...
Name - Beth Deckard
Studio Calico Username - Beth Ann
City, State, Country - Findlay, OH
When did you start scrapbooking and what got you started?
I made my first 12x12 layout on April 6, 2007 (I actually pulled it out to check!) but I know I started scrap shopping a bit before that. I remember seeing Lisa Bearnson on television - yes, I think I found scrapping on a tv shopping network. I then subscribed to Creating Keepsakes magazine, found Ali Edwards' blog, found my way here to Studio Calico and the rest is history.
What are your top 5 favorite products and why?
It's hard to narrow it down to five, but I love cardstock, patterned paper, letter stickers (never met an alpha I didn’t like), punches/border punches, and mists. I have for some reason developed a mist obsession recently. ;-) I find that I can create best when I start with a colored cardstock and patterned paper and the rest is icing on top.
What is your favorite Studio Calico product and why?
I love the exclusive stamps in the monthly kits but since SC has come out with their own lines, I am loving everything they make. I had always shied away from rub ons before but tried the SC ones for the first time not too long ago and they are amazing. And I can't wait to meet Mr. Huey!
What is your favorite go-to or signature technique?
I have several - well maybe 20 is more than several - Making Memories paints and tried NicoleH's technique of painting the edge of photographs and I am in love with that look. It really makes the photos stand out. Thanks Nik! I also love using my small sewing machine to add just a touch of detail quickly. I am working on staying simple but getting more confident with creating layers on my layouts to add depth.
Where do you find your inspiration?
In all sincerity, I find my inspiration right here at SC. I work full-time as an accountant so I get home in the evenings and after other commitments, have limited time to create. SC has become my online home and an endless source of ideas. Between April and the entire DT, the guest designers (Kinsey, I will be dusting off all my embroidery floss soon!), and all the talented SC members, I can always always find something to make me want to play with my supplies.
What is your favorite color and/or color combo?
My favorite colors are teal and yellow, with maybe some orange thrown in. I love the colors in the Back 40 kit, especially that main alpha. I also like pinks and greys together.
Tell us a bit about your design process.
I don’t know that I really have a design process, per se. I have been using sketches a lot lately to jump start myself. I like single page, 12 x 12 layouts best and I am fairly linear - I like things to be even! My husband is actually a professional photographer (mainly sports) and a lot of times he will get a photo of one of the kids that just begs to be scrapped. I will take credit for reminding him to bring his camera to family events! For me it's all about the photo and the story. I just realized last week that my favorite pages that I have made are actually a kind of love letter - to my husband or my kids and sometimes, even to myself. And I know my kids will treasure having them.
Tell us a bit about what else you do since we know you are creative in more ways than just scrapbooking.
I learned to crochet in grade school and later had a favorite aunt who taught me how to knit. I started to cross stitch after college and my first projects were Christmas ornaments. I moved on to bigger cross stitch projects including birth samplers for both my children. But those projects are a big time commitment and when I discovered scrapbooking, I knew it was perfect for me. I can be creative, tell a story and preserve a memory, and finish it in just one evening.
Thanks for the shout-out on the painted photo edges, my friend...glad you tried something new and ended up loving it! And thanks for the continued inspiration...now I'm off to find those K&Co. frames again!
totally fun to get to know you better beth, your pages are gorgeous!

Teal and yellow are my favorites too! I fell in love with them after watching the newest version of Emma -- if you haven't seen that you have to watch it. Her dresses, the backgrounds - I watched it several times just for the color combinations (which of course everyone around me thought was CRAzee).
