It's Tina with my creative process when creating a layout.
I started this particular layout wanting to use the leftover chipboard pieces from the main October Studio Calico kit, a photo of my sweet dog and the "dog" journaling card from the Elementary line.
From this point on, I went through my stash and collected items that would coordinate with the 3 items I wanted to use. Doesn't mean they'll all make the cut but I want to have the option at my fingertips instead of rummaging to find something when I'm "in the moment".
After gathering all my supplies, I start to play around with the composition of the empty chipboard frames.
Once I find the right placement, I start to cut up squares of patterned paper and the journaling card to fit under the frames. I keep a camera or my Iphone on hand to snap a quick photo of the layout I like so I don't forget what I've done. I'll also play around with the composition again if it's not working after seeing the patterned paper and photo put together.
I really wanted to incorporate the gray Studio Calico Patterns rub on. I got a little stuck here so I decided to take a snack break which was what I needed. I thought it would make perfect lines from some quick journaling.
Now I'm ready to commit to my layout and start gluing and taping down elements. I used Zipdry glue to adhere the frames to the patterned paper and the photo. I filled the rest of the little squares with smaller bits of paper and found that it needed another pop of color. That's when I added a little bit of yellow. I also felt like there was too much white space around the image of the dog from the Elementary journaling card so I added a halo of kraft colored stars around his head because my pup is such an angelic thing :) I also wanted to carry over the kraft from the square that is on the opposite side. I like balancing color throughout a layout.
I was happy with my layout but it still felt like it was missing a few things. It felt a little too stale and lacked the personal touches I like to add.
Sewing mostly always comes towards the end in my creative process. I usually finish off with either machine sewing, hand-stitching or the good old stand by....my friend, mr stapler. It still felt a little stale for me. I glanced around my desk still scattered with October's kit and found the 2 items I loved from the add ons.
I just had to use my favorite stamp at the moment which was in the En Plein Air, and finished off with the rub ons from Still Life.
Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzil cream, Kraft; Patterned Paper: Elementary Penmanship, Nibbles, Show Your Work; Rub Ons: SC Patterns Gray, 7 Gypsies from the Still Life add on; Chipboard: Maya Road window frames from On the Easel main kit; Stickers: Elementary Label stickers, American Crafts white felt asterisk; Other: Elementary Journaling cards; White thread; Black Versamark ink; Adhesive: This to That tape runner, ZipDry glue
The finished layout is about my sweet pup, Butters. I added a little journaling about how he'll be such a great companion to our son.
Oh my goodness Tina! This is SUCH an amazing layout! I'm drooling right now!
