Sunday Sketch

This week's sketch comes from Kelly Noel's "Love" layout in her ROLLER RINK gallery - we loved her use of orange + pink + gold on a boy page and and wanted to see how one of our members would translate this layout sketch into a card!


This week, we asked SC member joy131275 to share her take on the sketch. She used it for a card, keeping the sentiment the same and clustered lots of fun embellishments of her own...we love how it turned out!


supplies: Central High Kit, Roadshow Add On, White Embossing Powder, Versamark Ink, White Card Stock, Pearls, Tiny Attacher, Foam Dimensionals

We asked Joy to share her thoughts on switching a layout sketch to work for a card, and here's what she had to add:

I just adore Kelly's work and being a teamie with her over at Basic Grey, I knew it would be hard to live up to her talent and inspiring work...I looked at Kelly gorgeous layout and immediately what struck me was the sheer elegance that she brought to the layout...so that got me thinking that I wanted to capture just that on my card.

Kelly chose some beautiful bright and cheerful colours that are so eye catching..I chose to use some soft muted tones to capture elegance...I also found that Kelly's beautiful layering was such a stand out and I knew that this is what I wanted to be featured on my card also...the balance on this layout was something that I needed to capture onto the card also, by adding 3 main sections of balance, being the butterfly, the LOVE sentiment and the tab at the top of the card, I found it balanced out evenly and also creates visual appeal.

By  working with a smaller canvas was quite a challenge, but found it pushed me out of my normal routine and CAS style of card making...

I had a huge amount of fun creating from this sketch and I sure hope that you all do too!
