Greetings! I’m happy to be visiting here at the Studio Calico blog today. I’ve got a technique to share, as well as a new layout and a special deal for you too. Let’s dig in!
You will need some water, two colors of Mister Huey’s mist, a mask, and a surface to work on to do this technique.
Step 1: lightly mist your surface with water.Step 2: squirt lighter Mister Huey onto craft mat or plastic, then rub, press, and coat your tag in the color until satisfied with result. Allow to dry for a few minutes.
Step 3: Place mask onto your misted surface. I used several of the butterflies, and placed them (and tag) over a sheet of plastic before misting with my darker color of Mister Huey’s mist.
The background of my tag was still slightly damp, causing the darker color to bleed just a little in places. I love this softened effect, and I love playing with different color combinations as well. I also like using more intricate stencils for this technique, or applying sparkle in some form once done.
I took this tag and combined it with a lot of my current Studio Calico favorites to show you it in action on this layout.
On this layout I squirted the two mist colors onto my background paper as well as using the Plum Thumb mist on the butterfly mask and ‘stamping’ with it below my title. I love how those masks mix beautifully with the chipboard butterflies! A few scraps of paper, some fabrips, and the awesome Classic Calico kraft letter stickers are just about all the further embellishing I needed!
My page is finished off with just a touch of distress stickles (I can’t resist adding sparkle!). I’ve been working a lot with Mister Huey’s mists and Studio Calico products in my new Big Picture class that starts February 9th.
In class I’m digging into all kinds of ideas and techniques (like the one I just shared) and we will be creating up a storm for twelve whole weeks. If you’d like to join in, I’ve got a special deal to share! You can get $5 off my new 12-week workshop: The Curious Scrapbooker's Field Guide: 12 weeks of techniques and creative play.
